Learning Disability UK
June 22nd, 2009 by BloIt used to be the case that if you had a Learning Disability, UK schools would not treat your struggle as something which required a little extra coaching and care in order to help the pupil grasp what was being taught, but rather they would humiliate and embarrass the young learner thinking that this would simply make the child sit up and take more notice of what was being taught in the future. It was not uncommon for the teacher to make the kid wear a big pointy had with a large ‘D’ for dunce on it and stand in the corner with his or her face to the wall. It was no way to help those children and families cope with what has now been widely recognized as Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD or ADHD). It used to be all too common for a teaher to blame the child for not paying attention, when in fact the young learner would have wanted nothing more than to be able to participate in and keep up with, the class.
