Pretty much all pets can get out, of course, but once a bird gets out of the house it can be almost impossible to get the pet back in. Many of the most careful owners of birds for pets I now have at one time or another lost a prized specimen simply because of a single careless moment. It is an avoidable accident, but if you keep a bird for long enough, it is bound to happen one day. Still, in my opinion the advantages of having birds for pets outweigh the disadvantages. First of all, birds are very attractive animals. Most of them have beautiful plumage, sing pretty songs, and flutter about in a delightful way. They are also a pretty novel pet and can be very good conversations starters when you are having people over to your house for the first time.
