Anaerobic bacteria secretes VSCs or what refers to Volatile Sulfur Compounds. These said compounds are transformed quickly by bacteria into a gaseous state. These compounds are associated with halitosis or bad breath problems because they are true sources of rotten eggs smell. As bacteria secretes Volatile Sulfur Compounds, the compounds include: Methyl Mercaptan, Hydrogen Sulfide, Dimethyl Sulfide, Cadaverine and Putrecine. Upon swallowing food, we are actually trying to execute a bad breath treatment because we promote salivation and saliva washes away VSCs. Added to that, we also are washing away the food particles and dead skin cells that the anaerobic bacteria feed upon. Through lowering the availability of food inside the mouth, we are indirectly preventing bad breath and gum disease.
